Obituary of Jeffery John Mance
Jeffery John Mance passed peacefully on Saturday April 23, 2022 at the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence in Kirkland, Quebec after a long and courageous battle against brain cancer.
Jeffery is predeceased by his father Wally Mance, mother Dorothy Roberts, and stepmother Eileen Mance. He was the beloved husband of Martha Mance, and loving father of Robert Mance (Kristin Drummond) of Kansas City, MO, Elisabeth Mance (Robert Weatherill) of Halifax, NS, and of Matthew Mance (Meag Doucette) of Trenton, ON. Jeffery adored his two grandchildren William and Claire. He is also survived by siblings Valerie Kerr, Sue Tabner, Judy Mance, and Dave Mance, and many nieces and nephews.
Jeffery was born in Surrey, England on May 11, 1942. He emigrated to Montreal with his family at the age of thirteen, and later became a Canadian citizen. He studied at St Laurent High School, at McGill University, and in the Regular Officer Training Plan with the Canadian Armed Forces.
Jeffery was a committed employee for years, working continuously until the onset of his illness. He worked in computer systems and inventory control, first at Birks, followed by positions at Stokes and Rossy. He was equally committed to his church, Northlea United, and to his men’s fellowship group that he attended for many years.
He lived out a very active life participating in numerous activities. Foremost was his intense love for music. He was a 55-year member of the Barbershop Harmony Society, singing in the Island City Chorus and numerous quartets. This was a passion he shared with his whole family. He was also active playing the bagpipes, marching with the RCMP Pipes and Drums of Montreal in many parades, and playing duets with his son Matthew. His love of singing also extended to many years of singing in the church choir and community choirs with Martha.
Jeffery loved the outdoors and could be seen working in his garden for hours. He enjoyed walking his two collies, and in the summer, he enjoyed taking the canoe out on the lake. In his later years, he developed a passion for genealogy and researching the history of the Mance family.
Jeffery may be remembered most for being a kind, gentle, selfless and caring individual - someone who was constantly giving to his family, to his friends, and to his community.
His incredible, loving smile will be missed by his whole family.
The family extends its most heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Montreal Neurological Institute and the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence, with special thanks to Dr. Diaz and Dr. Owen.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm on Sunday June 5, 2022 at Riverside United Church, 200 Chem. de la Grande-Côte, Rosemère, QC J7A 1H4.
