It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Joan (Douglas) Freeman on March 03rd, 2022. She was born on April 10th in South Shields, England to Tom, a ship’s officer and Gertie (Hudson) Douglas, a homemaker.
Joan met the love of her life, Jack; after marrying, they resided in Bishop Auckland (northern England) raising two daughters. Jack’s dream was to immigrate to Canada, and so in the late 50’s they moved to Edmonton. Joan worked as a secretary for Solar Construction for approximately 20 years, before taking on an administrative assistant position with the R.C.M.P. – K division.
They retired to Qualicum Beach in 1984 and Joan truly felt she had found her “Shangrila”. Joan enjoyed bridge, scrabble and the close ties of her family and friends. As sad as we are, Mom would honestly say that she lived a truly wonderful and blessed life. She was one of the most optimistic, kind and friendly souls you could ever know; we are grateful to have had her in our lives.
Predeceased by Jack (2004), she is survived by daughters Lynn and Tru (Brock), brother Keith (Julia) in Malaysia; niece Ann (Alan) and cousins Claire (Chris), George (Rosine), David (Gill) and Doreen in England plus cousins Ian (Lori) and Debbie in New Brunswick. We gratefully request that no flowers be sent to our home. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society; a Tribute page has been set up in Joan’s memory. We would like to thank the Oceanside Palliative Care team for their support and guidance. At Joan’s request, there will be no Celebration of Life.
