Dear Friends and Family:
Please consider making a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of the late Mrs. Patricia P.W. Fong.
Patricia was an eldest daughter, an eldest sister, a wife, a mother and a grandmother. In addition, she was a mentor, co-worker, teacher, principal, family member and friend to many of you during her life.
Patricia was born on May 13, 1950 in Macau, SAR. She completed primary school at Tak Sing School in Hong Kong, SAR in 1961, and subsequently completed secondary school at Ling Ying College in Hong Kong, SAR in 1967. She then traveled to Taipei, Taiwan to pursue further studies at National Taiwan Normal University, obtaining her BA in English & Teaching in 1971. Upon graduation, Patricia returned to Hong Kong, SAR to work as a teacher at Holy Carpenter School and Ying Wa Boy's College, becoming a Qualified Teacher in Hong Kong, SAR in 1974.
She subsequently immigrated to Toronto, Canada where she met her late husband, Mr. Eddie W.C. Fong, whom she married on Aug. 21, 1976. Like many immigrants to Canada, Patricia was extremely conscientious and ambitious. She pursued a 20 year banking career at Scotiabank, National Trust and Canada Trust - whilst also earning a BA in Economics from the University of Toronto in 1985, helping run her husband's business, and raising her three children.
After her banking career, Patricia returned to her roots as an educator where she worked with the Toronto Catholic District School Board in various roles until the date of her death, most notably at Francis Libermann Catholic High School and St. Ignatious of Loyola's International Languages program.
On Oct. 24, 2021, Patricia passed away from complications related to un-detected, late stage cancer. Patricia is survived by her three children, Jeannie Y.C. Fong, Clara J.W. Fong and Oscar C. Fong, and her three grandchildren, Cameron Eng, Callie Eng and Oliver Garrard.
All funds donated through this page will support the work of the Canadian Cancer Society. Every donation to the Canadian Cancer Society brings us one step closer to preventing cancer, detecting it earlier, improving treatments and helping other Canadians live longer, healthier lives.
Sincerely,
Jeannie, Clara and Oscar
P.S. During her life, Patricia assisted a number of people each year in her community, many of whom were new immigrants or senior citizens, with preparation of their Canadian T1 personal income tax returns. Although Patricia was released from this responsibility, her son Oscar will be pleased to continue this community tradition on her behalf, in exchange for a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society. If Patricia had assisted you with your taxes in the past, please get in-touch with Oscar (who is a designated CPA) at oscar.fong.taxes@gmail.com to ensure that you have support for your upcoming tax return as Patricia would have provided.
