If you've found yourself on this page you likely knew my dad Bill, but allow me to share some of my memories of the man I am proud to call my Father.
When I remember Dad, I think of his many outstanding qualities. For starters, he was he one of the most kind and welcoming people I've ever known. Dads wit and humor always had those around him in high spirits, and he was quick to make friends in any situation. He was also determined. A woodworker at heart, Dad taught himself how to build guitars during his retirement with almost no instruction. Most importantly, Dad was a man that put his family first, always. He cared for my Mom with all his heart, and would bend over backwards for my sister and I, never hesitating to lend a hand with anything we needed.
My father was incredibly proud of his Scottish heritage; he wore a kilt to my wedding after all, and playing the bagpipes for the Queen was one of his most cherished accomplishments. He was meticulously well organized; despite my best efforts, he and Mom kept the cleanest and most orderly home I have ever been in. He also loved the outdoors. One of his favorite ways to pass the summers was in his camper with his wife and dog, in one of BCs many provincial parks.
There's so much more I could say about Dad. He was, without exaggeration, one of the most wonderful people I knew. Unfortunately, cancer does not discriminate. His symptoms came without notice. Just this past September, Dad hiked Sea To Summit, a difficult climb. Not weeks later he was diagnosed with stage IV esophageal cancer. Two months after that, he passed away.
This page is to help raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society in memory Dad. We all know how terrible a disease cancer can be, but I am ashamed to admit it took Dads sickness to make me truly understand. Dads fight was short but fierce; I wouldn't wish his sickness on anyone.
All funds raised through this page will be used for the research and study of esophageal cancer, with the goal of creating more effective treatments for the disease and forming better prevention techniques. It's our hope that in some small way, this will help others avoid what my family had to endure these past few months, and help Dads bravely faught battle to not be in vain.
