August 15 1942 – July 1 2017
Richard William Petersen passed away in the early morning hours of July 1 2017 after a month of fighting a sudden unexpected illness. Known to everyone who knew him as the fun-loving Viking, he is survived by his wife Rosana, his daughter Kristen and her husband Bryan, his grandson Benjamin, and his son Andy and his girlfriend Dahee.
A member of the boisterous Petersen clan, Richard loved his family and friends wholeheartedly, and wasn’t afraid to show it. He could often be found with a beer in hand, cracking jokes and filling a room with laughter. He played hard but he worked hard too, as a tool and die maker and later in life as a salesperson at Home Depot. He was fiercely loved by everyone who knew him, not just for his zest for life and welcoming nature, but also for his kind heart, his generosity, and his willingness to embrace everyone he met. We already miss him so much.
We will be holding a memorial service at the Church of St. Aidan (70 Silver Birch Ave) on July 10 at 1 pm. Everyone is welcome to come and celebrate his life. As per his wishes, his remains will be cremated and buried with his beloved parents Henry and Florence at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.
