For Miranda

I Relay for my niece Miranda who died of lung cancer on March 31, 2009.

On November 22, 2008, my 30 year old niece was diagnosed with lung cancer. Thoughts were hopeful when she started radiation.

But the cancer started spreading quickly like wildfire. From her left lung to her lymph nodes, to her diaphragm, to her duodenum, to her spine, to her hip. They tried chemotherapy but that just hastened her decline. Telling us we only had months left to spend with Miranda, they sent her home to die.

Within three weeks, on Tuesday March 31, 2009, she died. Miranda has left behind 5 children under the age of 12, a loving husband and many, many family and friends. Last year, Miranda participated in the Relay for Life as a survivor of cervical cancer. Her dream job was to work for the Canadian Cancer Society. This year, my team "We Walk For Miranda", will be walking for her here in Cold Lake. Remembering and continuing the fight against this devastating illness.
