Curl for Cancer
For Geoff and Maureen Cross of Richmond Hill, the loss of their 28-year old daughter Suzanne to osteosarcoma in 1997 after a short battle was earth-shattering. So, in 1998, they created the annual Curl for Cancer bonspiel in her memory, and in the memory of all those who lost their fight.
Merry Skatemas
Melissa Martin’s family has been touched by cancer too many times. After the third cancer diagnosis in their family, they decided to fight back. They turned their passion for ice skating into action by hosting a family skate-a-thon over the holidays.
Jean-Francois Morin
When Jean-Francois’ father Gilles was fighting cancer for the third time, the Society was there for them. In honour of his father and to give back, Jean-Francois raised critical funds to support the fight against cancer and completed the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront marathon.
Pink In The Rink
Ali Swift, team captain of the Nepean Wildcats hockey team and a cancer survivor created Pink In The Rink, an exposition hockey game played in bright pink jerseys to raise funds for the Society’s breast cancer research and prevention work.
Minor Hockey Fights Cancer
After losing his grandmother to pancreatic cancer in 2010 and seeing his mother diagnosed with breast cancer the same year, twelve-year old Mark Mannarn combined his love of hockey with his drive to end cancer to create and launch Minor Hockey Fights Cancer “Feel Like a Pro Day.”
Tattoos for Tatas
The annual Tattoos for Tatas event, hosted by Perfect Image Studio, allows tattoo artists to use their skills for a great cause! During one day in October, staff donate their time and 100% of the proceeds from ribbon tattoos are donated to the Canadian Cancer Society.
