Frequently asked questions

Q: What is the difference between an In Honour and an In Memoriam Tribute?
A: An In Honour Tribute is created to support a loved one during their fight against cancer and celebrate their strength. An In Memoriam Tribute is a way to pay meaningful respect to a loved one lost to cancer.

Q:  Who can set up a tribute personal page?
A:  Anyone who wishes to celebrate the life of another person can set up a free tribute personal page.

Q:  What do I need to create a tribute personal page?
A:  You will be guided through a step by step process to set up your free tribute personal page. The process itself is easy, however there is a 15 minute time limit before the personal page closes, for security purposes. Therefore you may wish to spend some time creating your tribute message and selecting the photo you wish to publish before starting the creation process.

Q: Is there a cost to set up a tribute?
A: No, there is no cost to set up a tribute personal page. We do offer the ability to make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society at the time your tribute personal page is created. However this is not required.

Q: What is a tribute personal page?
A: A tribute personal page is a web page you create in dedication to a loved one. You can personalize this page by sharing treasured memories and uploading photos. You can share this page with friends, family and colleagues by sending them an invitation to visit your tribute and you can make or requests donations in their name.

Q:  Who can visit a tribute personal page?
A:  Anyone with access to a computer and web browser, can access your tribute personal page.

Q:  What can visitors do at a tribute personal page?
A: Most visitors come to a tribute personal page to support a loved one’s fight against cancer or to remember someone they loved, and to celebrate that person’s life by making an online donation to the Canadian Cancer Society. However, it’s not mandatory to make a donation with every visit to the site. Visitors can view photos, read and sign the online guestbook, and refer others.

Q:  How do I find my Honouree’s specific personal page?
A:  Since each tribute personal page has its own distinct URL (website address), it’s easy to find a specific page. When visitors arrive at the Celebration of Life Tributes homepage, they will be able to search for the Honouree’s specific personal page by name.

Q:  How do visitors make an online donation?
A:  They will be guided through a fast, easy, and secure donation process where they enter their name and address, together with the number and expiry date of their Visa, MasterCard or American Express credit card.

Q:  How can I tell how much money has been raised through my tribute?
A:  There is a graphic on each tribute personal page which shows how much money has been raised. You also have the option of setting an online fundraising goal, and you can check your progress at any time from your Champion Centre.

Q:  Do tribute donations receive tax receipts?
A:  Yes. All donors will receive an electronic tax receipt by e-mail immediately following their donation.

Q:  Where do online donations go?
A:  Funds raised through Celebration of Life Tributes are used to support the overall work of the Canadian Cancer Society to make the most impact, with Canadians, against cancer, for life. Read more about where the money you raise goes.

Q:  How long does my tribute personal page last?
A:  Each tribute personal page remains posted on the Celebration of Life Tributes website indefinitely, unless you ask us to remove it or if the activity on the page significantly declines. We will contact you before taking any action with your tribute.

Q:  Can I create more than one tribute personal page at a time?
A:  Yes. When you have more than one tribute, you will be asked to choose which fund you would like to work with when you log into your Champion Centre.

Q:  How do I remove my tribute?
A:  Contact the Canadian Cancer Society to have your tribute personal page removed from the website.

Q: Can I use the Celebration of Life Tributes site to promote my community event?
A: We are thrilled that you are supporting the Canadian Cancer Society with your efforts. Celebration of Life Tributes has been set up to honour a person or group of people that have been touched by cancer. To promote a particular event, we ask that you use our personal fundraising events program that has been designed specifically for personal and community events.

Q: I do not live in the province of Ontario. Can I still use the site to create a tribute personal page?
A: Yes, although please note, any funds raised will be used by the Ontario Division of the Canadian Cancer Society as we lead the fight against cancer. We fight back by:

  • doing everything we can to prevent cancer from ever happening in the first place
  • funding research to outsmart cancer
  • empowering, informing, supporting and improving the lives of Canadians living with cancer
  • rallying Canadians to make cancer history
To support the Canadian Cancer Society in your area (outside of Ontario), please visit http://www.cancer.ca/ to find out how to contact your local Canadian Cancer Society office.

Q: My question has not been answered. Who can I contact?
