Insurance Industry teams up to Relay For Life
Relay For Life, the Canadian Cancer Society’s national, signature fundraising event, gives Canadians the opportunity to celebrate cancer survivors, remember and honour loved ones lost to cancer and fight back against all cancers. It is a 12-hour, overnight, non-competitive event that encourages individuals to form 10-15 person teams, collect donations and take turns walking or running around a track. Relay is a one-of-a-kind networking opportunity for people in any industry. WICC (Women In Insurance Cancer Crusade), an organization of women and men dedicated to mobilizing the property and casualty insurance industry in the fight against cancer, knows that better than anyone. Each year, this industry comes together to fight cancer in a big way with 65 teams raising more than $300,000 at Relay events in Ontario last year. Carrie Brown of Intact Insurance describes her company’s experience at the 2012 North York Relay: “As always, Relay was a wonderful and inspiring event. In addition to providing an opportunity for Intact Insurance and belairdirect employees to mingle, we were able to demonstrate our commitment to social responsibility. I'm proud to be involved in such an important cause - and of the $8,000 my team raised!” By participating as a company team at Relay, you will be exposed to a one-of-a-kind team building experience, while having the opportunity to engage in friendly fundraising competition amongst colleagues, network with members of your industry, and give back to the communities you serve. The Relay For Life Industry Challenge encourages companies within any industry to challenge each other to recruit teams and raise funds for the fight against cancer. Companies can also join the fight by becoming a Relay sponsor in Ontario. For example, the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) enters numerous teams in Relay events and also joins the fight at the North York Relay as our Communications Sponsor.
