As we practise physical distancing, our methods of fundraising may have changed — but our community is stronger than ever. We’re here to help our Relay For Life supporters with tools and resources to create an online cancer fundraiser, so you can maximize your success and reach your fundraising goal.
We encourage you to be mindful when connecting with your networks and make appropriate asks during this challenging time, but don’t forget: people are still looking for ways to help those in their community. Now more than ever, we know that people with cancer need our support.
As we stay home during COVID-19, personalized emails and phone calls are great ways to continue online fundraising. When approaching people for online donations, consider asking those beyond your closest friends and family. With nearly 1 in 2 Canadians expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, people would appreciate the opportunity to get involved and offer whatever they can to help ensure no one faces cancer alone.
Here’s how you can encourage people to support your fundraising:

Add a photo and share why joining Relay is close to your heart. Teams & individuals who personalize their pages often raise more money and are more successful in reaching their goal.
Your Fundraising Centre lets you kick-start your fundraising with a self-donation to your team or individual page, which shows potential donors your commitment to the cause.
Use the Fundraising Centre’s share link button in the central dashboard to text or email your page to potential donors — they can donate to you from there.
Our social sharing buttons will share your page on your social platforms with a customizable message asking for donations. Update your friends and family on your progress using the hashtag #RelayForLife.
Send out pre-written emails to friends and family that discuss why you’re fundraising and include an opportunity to donate. And don’t worry — you’re able to edit these emails however you’d like!
