My first experience with breast cancer was 21 years ago when our family was devastated with the loss of our sister Pamela.  She had been diagnosed only 2 years earlier and passed away at the young age of 36.  

One year ago, I received my breast cancer diagnosis after finding a suspicious lump during my annual mammogram.  By the grace of God and thanks to many advances in medicine and cancer research I have completed my chemotherapy and radiation treatments.  I chose to have a double mastectomy with plans for reconstruction in the future.  

I am grateful for the love and care from my husband, children, sisters, parents and friends, including others who have endured cancer themselves. With their support I have stayed strong and managed to go through this frightening and difficult journey with some tears and some laughter and a lot of love.  My faith in God and the support of many people has carried me through this chapter in my life with a positive attitude and resilience I never knew I had.  It takes a village, but my village is so large it is much more than a village – more like a large city!
