Hi friends! I am fundraising for the Canadian Cancer Society through the Batting Against Breast Cancer softball tournament on September 10. I know, I know, many of you think that donations to cancer research only line pockets. I am here to argue otherwise.

I am currently on my own Breast Cancer journey... I was diagnosed early this year with stage 2, grade 3 breast cancer and quickly opted for a bilateral mastectomy. It has been a whirlwind of a year. Post surgery the initial recommendation was for chemo, given the aggressiveness of the cancer and the fact I was (at the time) under 40. I received one more glimmer of hope to avoid chemo which was a genetic test on the removed tumor to understand if chemo would be beneficial or not. This test is relatively new and costs the Tom Baker Cancer Center over $6000 CAD! In my mind worth every penny. My results came back and reversed the recommendation of benefit to my body to go through chemo and I was able to move on to the next stage of treatment. Testing like this wasn't available 15 years ago!

Breast cancer has affected almost everyone that I know in some form. My fundraising goal seems high but it is only 1/2 of what it would cost only 1 woman to get the results that I did and to avoid putting her body and mind through chemo.
