I am participating inTour de Rock 2020 to support the mission of the Canadian Cancer Society.
I was a member of the 2019 Tour de Rock team. It was an amazing jouney - my bike is still adourned with the names of Honorary (Junior) riders, Jules, Alice and Gus. Their names are in gold (for Childhood Cancer Awareness). The many braclets are still attached to my handlebars. I remember - and I still ride thinking of them.
Pediatric cancer is devistating for the children and their families. However, community support on Vancouver Island, to fight this terrible disease is unbelievably strong. As we rode down the island in September 2019, our hearts filled with community support, engagement and committment - all to end childhood cancer. Thank you.
I still see Jules, Alice and Gus. Jules is nearing his second year treatment free; he is now 8 and starting to get the strength in his legs. Jules sister, Alice, is 6 and less often now, asks when she has to go to hospital. Sadly, their mother Jordan is in her own battle against cancer. And in Qualicum, Gus has just had his final journey to Children's Hospital and he finishes treatment at the end of July 2020. His family of 6 is seperated to keep him safe from any potential Covid contamination. His end of treatment party cancelled because of Covid.
The Tour de Rock 2020 Ride will be different this year. You will see Alumni riding throughout our communities. We will endevour to reach every child and family affected by cancer; our community spirit is present for everyone to remember the children enduring Pediatric Cancer - regardless of Covid. The physical distancing and isolation that we are subjected to is the life of children and their families while struggling with Cancer treatment.
Thank you for your continued support of our cause to end Pediatric Cancer.
Every pledge shows families who have a child with cancer that they do not have to face it alone. Online pledging is secure and it saves the Canadian Cancer Society by reducing administrative costs.
Thanks for your support!
