This year I am participating in Cops For Cancer to support the mission of the Canadian Cancer Society.
This September I will be one of 41 law enforcement members cycling in the 2021 Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast - we will be riding over 500km in 5 days to raise money for childhood cancer research.
Cancer has directly affected many of my family and close friends. In 2013, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. While being with her on her journey, which wasn’t easy, I am thankfully she was able to beat it.
Unfortunately, in 2019 my childhood best friend succumbed to stage 4 colon cancer after a courageous 4 year battle with the disease.
These two events have impacted me greatly. Watching those you love suffer and knowing there is nothing you can do about it is heartbreaking. No one should have to suffer from cancer, let alone children. Being a father to two young boys, I couldn’t imagine going through this type of diagnosis with them. This event is my opportunity to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research.
My goal this year is to reach $4,000, no amount is too small. I have already started training, so let the fundraising begin.
The money raised from this event helps fund leading-edge cancer research that is improving cancer treatments, preventing cancer and saving lives; provide reliable and up-to-date information on cancer, risk reduction and treatment; offer vital community-based support services for people living with cancer and their families; and advocate for healthy public policies.
Thanks for your support!
