The Pedal for Hope team is celebrating twenty years of pedaling in support of children living with cancer and their families. They will again give hope and honour our Special Friends along the tour journey. 

I am participating in Cops for Cancer to support the mission of the Canadian Cancer Society’s Cops for Cancer. Starting May 6th ,2024. I, as a rider for the Pedal for Hope Team, will be gearing up for a weeklong cycling tour in the Durham and Peterborough Region of Ontario.  

Bio

My name is Steve Cauwenbergs and I have been employed by Metrolinx as a Special Constable since 2012. I accepted a position as an Investigator in the Investigations & Intelligence Unit at Metrolinx in March of 2023.  When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my wife and two young children.  We enjoy activities that involve spending time outside, especially hiking and camping as a family.

I am relatively new to riding and I am interested in finding ways of incorporating riding into community involvement.

For this reason, I am excited to have the opportunity to participate with, and contribute to the 2024 Pedal for Hope program, as this program is so important for spreading awareness and raising funds for such an important cause.

History 

In 2005, the Peterborough Chapter of Cops for Cancer took on a new identity. The Pedal for Hope Cycling Team was born and local children living with cancer had a new support team behind them! Local police personnel, first responders, a retired N.H.L. hockey player and a great crew of support personnel have been dedicating their time to this worthy cause. 

The Pedal for Hope team cycles throughout Central Ontario visiting local schools and businesses delivering a powerful message about kids living with cancer. We are proud of what we give back to our community but can’t do it without the support of our ”Pedal for Hope Friends” and their families, our police services, our schools, local businesses, and our sponsors.

The money raised from this event is designated to the Pediatric Family Counselling Service as well as leading pediatric cancer research. It helps fund leading-edge pediatric cancer research that is improving cancer treatments, preventing cancer and saving lives. Money raised will also help the Canadian Cancer Society advocate for healthy public policies and provide up-to-date information on cancer, risk reduction and treatment. Vital community-based support services for children and young adults living with cancer and their families will also be able to continue.
