Tour de North 2024: Team Allison Fenske - Canadian Cancer Society

Tour de North 2024

Team Allison Fenske

Wouldn't it be great if no one ever had to hear or say the words, I have cancer?

Hearing the word cancer associated to your mom is one of the worst feelings I have ever experienced. Living so far away from her at the time, I felt completely helpless, like the oxygen in my world was on a limited supply. My son was so young, would he know this amazing ray of light? I couldn't fix it, and I couldn't change it. My Mom, this amazing pillar of strength, someone I use as a gauge of how to be a mom, what would my life be like without her?

I am lucky, my Mom beat it and is cancer free!

Too many times family and friends have had to hear those terrible words.

In March 2021 we lost a light in our community, an amazing man, and the best hockey dad around.  I miss most his humour! I miss watching the kids play hockey with him. I miss watching him with his family and seeing all that love. Ron, we love you, you are always in our hearts, and I will be thinking about you the entire tour my friend!

If you haven't looked up Camp Goodtimes, please do! This is an amazing place where kids with cancer, and their families, get to go and JUST BE KIDS! They are no longer 'the kid with cancer'. Everyone is on the same playing field, and they can meet and connect with other kids that understand what life is like for them. How great is that?

One child with cancer is one child too many. Nothing big gets solved by one person or one organization. To take on cancer, it takes every one of us. It takes a society.

Thanks for your support!
