Hello! My name is Jane. I am excited to announce that I will be riding alongside an incredible team for the Cops for Cancer 2024 Tour de Coast. This is an annual event in September where local police agencies and emergency service personnel will ride 800km in 8 days along the BC Coast to support children and families living with cancer.  

The money we raise as a team from this event will support the Canadian Cancer Society in fueling new pediatric cancer research discoveries and sending 600 kids each year to Camp Goodtimes, a local medically-supervised recreation experience for children and teens affected by cancer and their families. Our goal as a team is to raise $600,000 with my personal goal being $6000. 

I am participating in Cops for Cancer for a few reasons. I am riding in honour of loved ones who have battled cancer. My grandmother won the battle with Non-Hodkin's lymphoma but unfortunately, my grandfather and uncle both lost their battles with cancer. 

The second reason this cause is near and dear to my heart is through my previous profession. Prior to joining the first responder family, I was a Registered Nurse. While nursing, I worked on a surgical unit where many of the patients I cared for were undergoing surgical interventions due to a cancer diagnosis. I witnessed the impacts cancer inflicts on both the patients as well as their families. Riding in Cops for Cancer is a supportive way to bridge my previous career of nursing with this new career I have taken on.
