Asking for donations

When approaching people for online donations, consider asking those beyond your closest friends and family. With 2 in 5 Canadians expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, people would appreciate the opportunity to get involved and offer whatever they can to help ensure no one faces cancer alone.

Here’s how you can encourage people to support your fundraising:

Recommend different amounts for people to donate.
People often appreciate some direction – especially if they haven’t donated before.
Be enthusiastic!
In addition to funding ground-breaking research, tell people about the Canadian Cancer Society’s support services for people with cancer. Remind people about our online and phone-based support programs, which more Canadians have been relying on during this challenging time.
Follow up.
Life gets busy, and more often than not, people could just use the reminder to donate.

All Plaid for Dad team captains receive access to their own Fundraising Centre. Get to know its tools and features so you can make the most of your fundraising!

Monitor your progress

Use the central dashboard to keep track of the progress your team has made towards its fundraising goal.

Personalize your page

Add a photo and share why joining Plaid for Dad is close to your team's heart. Teams who personalize their pages often raise more money and are more successful in reaching their goal.

Make a self-donation

Your Fundraising Centre lets your team kick-start your fundraising with a self-donation to your team which shows potential donors your commitment to the cause.

Send out your page

Use the Fundraising Centre’s share link button in the central dashboard to text or email your team's page to potential donors — they can donate to you from there.

Share on social

Our social sharing buttons will share your team's page on your personal or corporate social platforms with a customizable message asking for donations.

Send emails

Encourage everyone on your team to send out pre-written emails to their colleagues, business associates, friends and family that discuss why they are fundraising and include an opportunity to donate. And don’t worry — they will be able to edit these emails however they'd like!

Say thanks

Show your team's gratitude with a selection of pre-written emails and messages that can be customized for your donors.

Fitness challenge

Challenge colleagues and friends with challenges such as push ups, chin ups or sit ups. Collect online donations as you reach your goal!
