Brad Elphick 2nd Annual Memorial Golf Tournament
February 23, 2013. I was in Whistler enjoying reading week when my mom called. "Brett, we think Dad has had a stroke and we are heading to the hospital, please come home as soon as it's safe for you to drive." Never have I felt so helpless.
We were quickly told about the diagnosis of a cancerous tumor pushing on his brain, restricting his ability to communicate properly. He was initially given 18 months, shocking news for someone who had appeared in excellent health 3 weeks before. But he put a smile on and told us he was ready to go to battle.
To be honest, I can't quite remember how many different trials and tests he went through, but I can tell you that at the 18 month mark of his diagnosis he was still there with little signs of slowing down.
Unfortunately, in December 2016, we were told that doctors had run out of options, as there was very little experience with someone who had lasted as long as Dad had. On June 18th, 2017, Brad passed away peacefully, holding the hand of his loving wife of almost 27 years, having been wished a happy Father's day from his 2 kids.
Without the help of the cancer society, we may not have gotten the 4 years we got to spend with him. So on June 23rd, 2018, we honored Brad by raising money for brain cancer research to help others the way he was helped through a memorial golf tournament and raised almost $3500! This year I hope we can raise more!
Please donate today and help us reach our fundraising goal! The money raised will help Canada’s brightest researchers make groundbreaking discoveries, provide cancer patients with much-needed support services and ensure that other life-changing work is possible.
Thank you Brad for being such an inspiration!
Proceeds from my fundraiser will support Brain and CNS cancer
