Welcome to Jill's Dry Challenge!

I'm going DRY this February!
Why?
My Papa passed away in 2016 from stomach cancer. After I had some issues with my stomach over the past year, I asked my doctor if I should be concerned about in the future too. I learned that excessive alcohol consupmtion can cause damage to many of your organs over time, which could make them weak in old age to any number of medical concerns.
So I'm raising awareness, and money, for cancer! You can learn more about the benefits of reducing your alcohol consumption at https://www.dryfeb.ca/about/health-benefits
I'll be posting updates here and on my personal facebook about the challenge throughout the month. Let me know if you want to donate! Or, make your donation online – it’s fast, secure.
Thanks for your support!
Cheers! (with my coffee mug)

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!!
As you have probably noticed by the graphics on this page: WE DID IT!
We have surpassed my goal of $100 raised for cancer research. This was a fun team effort from everyone involved and I literally couldn't have done it without all of your help!
Thank you!!!

Day 25 and feeling good!
Guess who's 5lbs lighter? Me!!
I'm hydrated and healthy because of this challenge. I've been going to bed earlier on weekends, and consuming a lot less calories after 8pm.
Man I wish I went to the gym more this month, imagine the progress I could've had! I strongly suggest this for anyone wanting to slim down :)

Doctor's fun fact:
I talked to my doctor last week, and mentioned I would like a glass of wine before be just to get a little sleepy and unwind. Guess what! She told me alcohol, while it might make you feel tired, is actually proven to worsen your quality of sleep. Good to know!

At the end of a long hard day
Usually if I get home late after a very long and trying day, I'll reach for a glass of wine to unwind. Whether or not I was trying to unwind, one glass of wine always made me feel relaxed. Sometimes I'd sit with a cozy blanket and a book, other times I'd pair my wine with a hot bath.
Yesterday was one of "those" days; My patience was thin and my body was aching and I just needed to relax before bed. But now, instead of relying on a something to relax me, I had to actually relax on my own! How exhausting! Having a glass of wine was an easy short-cut to relaxing.
Luckily, I have a stash of chamomile vanilla tea. It's warm on my hands, the steamy smells are therapeutic to breath in, and it's hydrating! It's a healthier and more intentional way of unwinding.

2 Biggest reasons to sober up!
These are in my preferred order!
#1 Save money!!
Whether its at the store or socializing, non-alcoholic options are cheaper. Plus when you're drunk you might get a little care-free with your hard-earned cash.
#2 So healthy!
-Earlier to bed, properly hydrated, and no hangovers means more weekend for you to enjoy!
-Also, better mental health happens when your body is happy and healthy and you aren't aching all over.
-Improved weight loss from cutting out sugary drinks and late night McDonald's snacks.
-You tend to actually quench your thirst with good liquids. Plus, less sugary drinks and more water makes the added bonus of clearer skin!
Your organs will be happy, your skin will be happy, your partner will be happy not to deal with a miserable-hungover zombie!
