Fighting cancer is often described as an uphill battle – it’s a sad reality that many of us have someone close to our hearts diagnosed with this highly-aggressive disease. It’s estimated 2 out of 5 Canadians will face this challenge in their lifetimes.

The SO-TRI triathlon team is taking this metaphor to heart and showing our solidarity to raise money for cancer research by Everesting Dundas’ Sydenham Hill – that is 90 times climbing up one of the toughest uphills in the Golden Horseshoe. From top to bottom, Sydenham Hill winds up 99.3m with 11% grade to the top of the Hamilton Escarpment -- 90 repeats equal 8,943m, just over the height of Mt. Everest.

Our teammate Patricia Pedersen is the galvanizing inspiration for this event. She motivated us all with her Sydenham Everesting attempt last year. This powerhouse and 9-time IRONMAN finisher raised $8,000, making her first attempt on May 21, 2022. It was her beautiful way of paying tribute to our teammate Lara, who gracefully battled pancreatic cancer for 7 years.

This year, on Saturday, May 27, Patricia will once again lead this valiant uphill quest, starting at midnight. Throughout the day, SO-TRI members will join the pursuit from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm and pedal beside her to honour those who bravely and gracefully battled and are battling cancer.

Please support us by donating as we ascend in memory and honour of our loved ones. Those we have lost including David and Lara, the many others who have succeeded, and of course those that still battle on.
