As nearly half of all Canadians, I experienced cancer in my family. In 2012, when our family was in remission, I decided to join the fight against the disease. With a group of others, including several medical professionals, we launched a bike team to raise money for cancer research - Docs' Choice. Since, that team has raised $1.5 million for leading research centres: Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto; Jewish General Hospital in Montreal; and the CHU de Quebec at Laval University.
As Board Chair of the Canadian Cancer Society for the last six years I have seen the great advances that research has yielded. This year Docs' Choice has become Docs' Choice Alliance, for the first time building a collaboration between the Canadian Cancer Society and the Terry Fox Foundation to raise money for cancer research.
