When my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer twenty years ago, I thought he caught it early and he'd be fine.  When he died more than a decade later of a pulmonary embolism, I suspected the cancer had returned. 

When my wife was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2017, I thought the doctors had controlled it and she'd be fine.  When she died a year and a half later, my world collapsed. 

When my older brother Michael was dianosed with pacreatic cancer in 2023, I knew the odds were against him, but I mantained hope.  He died in July 2024, one day after his 55th birthday.

I lived the better part of my life without thinking about cancer.  Yet for the past 10 years, cancer has been ever present in my life.  Cancer is the shadow that haunts.  But together, we can help others fight this disease.  And we can support medical advancements that will one day, as my brother Michael loved to say, "make cancer history."

Cancer does not care about each circle of love it interrupts.  Through the Canadian Cancer Society, support for cancer patients, caregivers and loved ones allows us to restore the circle.  Even a smaller circle of love is a circle of love, and cancer has no chance of stopping that.
