Relay for Life holds a special place in my heart. I first got involved with Relay in my last year of high school. I was inspired to support my community by planning a massive fundraising event for the Canadian Cancer Society. It felt good knowing that I was playing a part in helping those affected by cancer.

Little did I know that at this time, my dad was one of the many people fighting cancer. He went through chemotherapy and radiation treatment but to no avail. He died from throat cancer in February of 2023. I felt the pain and grief that many others experience after losing a loved one to this terrible disease. However, this pushed me to work even harder so that hopefully one day, no one will have to go through the same thing. 

Since Relay had such a big impact on my life, I wanted to continue being part of it in post-secondary. The Relay for Life committee at Sheridan is working hard to reach our school's fundraising goal of $10,000! Everyone has a connection to cancer and I am inspired by how many people are willing to help make a difference.
