My name is Bria Roberts, in November of 2018 when I was just 11 years old, a routine eye exam changed my life forever. My eye doctor noticed I had swelling on my optic nerves, she quickly referred to my local hospital for an MRI. 

After getting the results I was then referred to CHEO in ottawa to see a specialist. Within a couple days I was having brain surgery to get a biopsy of my newly discovered tumour, making a new opening for brain fluid to flow and adding a partial shunt for emergency use. 

After I recovered from this very risky surgery, I received my results from the biopsy, and was told I had brain cancer. Shortly after this news, my treatment plan began. 

My family and I had to travel to ottawa every thursday for chemo early friday morning, we did this for 70 weeks. My treatment finished in 2020, but I still return to CHEO every 6 months to ensure my tumour hasn't grown. I will live the rest of my life with my brain tumour that I named Fred. 

Every year I participate in Relay for Life, this event helps many people like me battling this terrible disease.
