Discrimination in the health care system and environmental factors create disparities in the treatment, prevalence, and mortality of cancer. Indigenous, racialized, 2SLGBTQ, low-income, rural, and unhoused populations experience greater cancer risks and barriers to recieving compassionate care. Remember that caring for people impacted by cancer requires advocacy: fighting for peoples rights in the health care system, lobbying for social change, and treating people with empathy to take preventative action.
