This event is near and dear to my heart because my grandmother Monica passed away after enduring a hard go at cancer. She endured a hard battle for so long, and to be fortunate enough to participate in relay for life I would love to fundraise enough money that one day we can find a cure for cancer. It is such an ugly disease that so many families face, and even if you don't have cancer it is always around us. My grand father died when I was little, but I was very close with him and we would always go fishing together. I haven't gone fishing since. Cancer has taken too many people. Last year with hard work and determination, our team raised 6,000!! I would love if we could go greater than that this year! Nelson was so good in raising money and I would love for this to be the second year. When I think Relay for Life, I think of all the smiles I saw on the faces of cancer survivors when they walked the survivor lap. I want to help build a change because I care for the cause.
