No one should have to live without a mother. It's not right, for anyone. Not fair, for anyone. And yet, my mother had to. She had to live without someone to support her and love her as she continued her journey through life. Live without the person she loved most, and somehow go by her day to day without her best friend. Never being able to tell her stories of her biggest achievements or look for support during her hardest times. 

I don't know how she does it, for living without my mother would kill me. She is the most important person in my life and thinking of braving the world with out her seems not only impossible but terrifying. 

And yet that is exactly what she did, after cancer took her mother away from her. A loving, caring, smart mother who didn't deserve what came to her. A grandmother I never got to meet, but whom I think of everyday and always try to make proud. 

This is why I fight cancer. To fight so that others don't loose loved ones like we did. To fight so that girls can grow up with their mothers by their side. To fight for my grandmother, in her memory.
