Three Oaks Senior High is running a Youth Relay for Life again this year! The students are off to a great start in their quest to raise $20000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.

With nearly 1 in 2 Canadians expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, I'm more determined than ever to help change the future of this disease. My family and friends have be affected. And that makes it personal. Loved ones gone too soon and others continuing to fight (and hoping for a cure). For many years I have been part of raising money for the Canadian Cancer Society but it is only in recent years that I have really been exposed to the stories of those fighting for their lives. Yes, I knew there were challenging treatment regimes, but I was not aware of the ongoing nature of this - well past the initial treatments even if these do their job. I knew there would be many decisions to be made and research to be done but did not understand the complex nature of these and their scope. I am thankful to those who have shared their stories with me.

A recent loss of a friend from cancer has also been impactful this year. A bright light dimmed too soon. This Relay I will be thinking of her and those missing her...especially her parents.
