When I was younger, like most kids in the first grade, I had never heard of cancer or the terrible effects it has on our world. That is, until my parents first got the call from my grandfather saying he’d been diagnosed with cancer. On June 19, 2014, after several long months fighting, my grandfather lost his battle against cancer.

No child should need to read out a funeral speech at 7 years old. No child’s last and only memories of their loved one should be him laying in a hospital bed. No child should need to fear getting sick after cancer stole their grandfather from them. No child should be effected by cancer.

Every dollar raised in events like Relay for Life is one dollar closer to a world where children can just be children, in a world without death or disease or funerals or hospitals. Every dollar raised is a dollar closer to a world without cancer.
