I was extremely lucky for the majority of my life. Cancer was never something I was exposed to, I was protected from it. I knew there were people in the periphery of my life who were struggling with this horrible disease but it wasn't until this past year that I really got a shock.

In March of 2023 one of my best friends and I were planning to spend a month living in Quebec. A couple weeks before we were scheduled to leave I got one of the scariest phone calls of my life. Grace had been diagnosed with leukaemia. I remember holding it together while we were on the phone but as soon as that call ended I broke down and sobbed.

I didn't know how to help. I didn't want to be overbearing but I wanted her to know that I was there whenever she needed me. Relay for Life became one of those ways that I could help.

I relay for Grace, for all of the people who have to suffer through this disease and all the people who stand by their sides.
