I long for a future where nobody ever has to hear the words "you have cancer" again.

I'm once again participating in a Relay for Life event after so many years have passed. I'm happy this year to be involved with the Crusaders against Cancer as part of the Wellington Heights Secondary School Relay for Life event. In previous years I have been involved in Relay for Life events in Woodstock, Alliston, Dufferin and more. I've been involved as a volunteer, as a participant and even as a Keynote Speaker during one special Relay for Life event that took place in Dufferin County.

The Relay for Life is a special event - one which fosters unity, togetherness and teaches us the importance of standing together for a cause worth fighting for. 

During this Relay for Life Event I will be walking in Honour of the Survivors - those who have fought "the Beast" and won. Over the years I've made many wonderful connections with survivors from across Ontario.

I will be walking in honour of those currently fighting cancer - including important family friends - may our efforts contribute to the betterment of their outcomes and lead them across the finish line.

I will be walking in memory of those who have lost their battles including friends and family who lost their battles.

I will be walking as a reminder to have HOPE and to be part of something so important to me.

I will also be walking because my battle against cancer is fortunately behind me. For 26 years I have been free of cancer and fortunate to have been able to live my life against the odds that were once stacked before me. With the support of a loving family, the care of brilliant nurses and doctors I received the right care at the right time and things worked out in my favour. Acute Lympocytic Leukemia is now something I can teach about and help people to learn about rather than something I myself have to face. I'm inspired to help people find their place in the world, to recognize the importance of taking care of one's health and to share in the message that it's important to know that we're not alone in this fight.
