Hi! My name is Lara. In September of 2016, I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bone cancer, Osteocarcoma. You may be familiar with this term from Canadian icon, Terry Fox. At 13 years old, I was thrown into a whirlwind of chemotherapy treatments, surgeries, and hospital stays up to 5 days a week.

After a year of intensive chemotherapy treatments, and a 15 hour limb salvage surgery, doctors at SickKids were able to save my leg, and my life. Fast forward 7 years, I am a happy, healthy, fourth year student at the University of Guelph.

I could not have fought this fight without my amazing support system. My family and friends were, and continue to be, my support system throughout my treatment process and my after-care. My family and I will be participating in the Relay for Life event at the University of Guelph on March 9th.
