This year will be my tenth year participating in the South Shore Relay for Life. Every year, I take my time setting up my fundraising page and write a long, heart-felt write-up about all the reasons I Relay. But the truth is, every year that list of reasons keeps getting longer and longer, and each year it get's harder and harder to write it.
I began my Relay adventure in honour of my mother. Over the past ten years I've added countless names to the list of people who I relay for. People who I've lost, people who have survived, and people who continue their courageous battles as I type this. Parents, Grandparents, Aunts, Co-workers, Friends, and even myself.
This year will be the first year I Relay in memory of my mother. She put up three incredible fights over the course of the last thirteen years but sadly, she lost her fight in December 2019 at the young age of 57.
This year, in honor of my tenth year, and in memory of my mother - I've set myself the largest personal goal I've ever had. I would like to raise $5,000 in honour of Mum and dedicate this year to her.
Let's keep the Lodge going for patients who need a place to stay during treatment. Let's keep the research going in hopes of a cure. Let's keep Camp Goodtimes going for the kids who need a chance to just be kids again. Let's keep the resrouces available to those families who desperately need the help while their families struggle through this horrible disease. Let's change lives.
