This year's walk takes a very personal turn for me. Right after last years walk, my Mom was diagnosed on June 17, 2023 with Pancreatic Cancer, she died 44 short days later on Aug 2, 2023, in hospice. Her family doctor was treating her "symptoms" for several months. The symptoms being decribed by her as heatburn, indigestion & back pain. It wasn't until I took her to our local emergency department on June 17th that they did testing & a CT Scan to diagnose the pancreatic Cancer. It was already in Stage 4 by the time she was diagnosed and never even got to see an oncologist, due to the back log of patients. Her mother also died of Pancreatic Cancer.
My brother has been in remission of T-Cell Lukemia for over 25 years. Thankfully they caught it early, but it was still 3 years of grueiling chemo & radiation.
Nearly half of Canadians are expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. That means almost half of our family and friends will hear the words “you have cancer” at some point in their lives. Join me in taking action to help create a world where no Canadian has to fear this disease.
I’m determined to make a difference by participating in the Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life. This is a nationwide event that brings people together to celebrate survivors, honour those we’ve lost and show that no one has to face cancer alone. By making a donation, you can help fund Canada’s most promising research, vital support services for patients and their families, and other important work that could change the future of cancer.
I hope you’ll show your support, and help me reach my fundraising goal.
Thank you!
