Nearly half of Canadians are expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. That means almost half of our family and friends will hear the words “you have cancer” at some point in their lives. I remember when my mom called me to tell me what they had found 2 weeks after my son's third birthday. The shock and panic that ran through me as she said it wasn't bronchitis like they thought and it was in fact lung cancer rocked me to my core. This is just the start of a difficult journey and this journey is not something that is singular, countless people go through it everyday. This journey ripples through a community of loved ones and supports and those who enter it do not know what they need until they are in it, That is where the Canadian Cancer Society comes in. They provide supports where they are needed. While we recently lost both my Mom and my Aunt Kathy who fought a similar battle with cancer, Those supports that were provided to myself and my family were integral.
I’m determined to make a difference by participating in the Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life. This is a nationwide event that brings people together to celebrate survivors, honour those we’ve lost and show that no one has to face cancer alone. By making a donation, you can help fund Canada’s most promising research, vital support services for patients and their families, and other important work that could change the future of cancer. I am asking that if you have the means to support this intiative that you please do so... even if it is just coffee money, every little bit helps.
I hope you’ll show your support, and help me reach my fundraising goal in memory of my Mother Sherry and my Aunt Kathy, My other mother. I am also doing this for my dear friends who are still fighting and those who have recently been touched by cancer but are in remission.
Thank you!
