Dear family and friends,
Again this year I, along with my friends on the Rays of Hope team, will be taking part in the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Sadly this past January we lost one of our treasured teammates. Brendan always brought energy and a few laughs to our Relay experience and he will be greatly missed This year Rays of Hope will walk in his memory and in the memory of so many family and friends who have been impacted by cancer.
I know that people often question whether the scientific community is making any progress with a disease that seems so pervasive. Recently I heard an interview with Terry Fox's brother. He mentioned that when Terry was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma back in 1977, the survival rate was less than 5%. It is now over 80% and amputations are very rare. Your donations ARE making a difference!
Your donation to the Relay for Life will help fund research into diagnosing and treating cancer. This research may have already saved your life or the life of a loved one. It saved mine! When I was diagnosed with cancer I relied on the Canadian Cancer Society's resources and support team to help me through my diagnosis and treatment. Money raised through the Relay for Life also helps fund a variety of important support programs for cancer patients. One such program is the Wheels of Hope, which provides cancer patients with free rides to their treatments and appointments. I am so proud of my husband, Bob, for being one of the Wheels of Hope volunteer drivers.
I hope that you will join me in supporting this important cause once again this year by donating what you can. Every dollar helps. Better yet, join our team or just come out and walk with us on June 8 in Burlington!
Thank you.
Carol
