Each year the list of personal friends and family that have had their lives impacted by the diagnosis of cancer grows ever longer. At that same time, some of those names are getting closer and closer to my own immediate family. Instead of sitting here worrying about 'when will it be me', something more productive has to happen. Research has made a huge impact on many of those already on my list and I know that more funds relates to more reasearch. This is something I can do - while I wait!
This group was originally started because of an amazing person, Jack Ferwerda. Jack was our manager at the first Rider Store in Saskatoon. He was the most honest, caring, thoughtful and thankful person I have know. It was a pleasure to go to work each day with my ?big brother"! Jack lost his battle with cancer which left many people divistated and frustrated. Some of the staff thought to put our energies into something that he would be proud of, to channel our grief towards something productive. The Saskatoon Game Changers was born. In the five years that we have been fundraising, our team has raised $8949. We have so much to be proud of. Jack, you are missed but bring a smile to our faces as we share your stories.
If you are able - I would appreciate a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society so that we can all make that difference in someone's life. My brother-in-law, John has become my 'Poster Child' for not giving up, saying "I can" rather than "I can not' while always staying hopefull for another day. While his (and my sister's) journey has been long, I appreciate the inspirtation and spirit they have shown. Thank you both.
Please join me as we honour both those that are living their lives with strength, dignity and compassion as their cancer journey is not yet finished while we take the precious time to remember those that have galently gone before and are now resting in peace.
