Everyone close to me (and many who hardly know me!) know that I work for, and believe strongly in the Canadian Cancer Society.
I have shared the stories with each of you about the need for support for those we know that have heard the words you have cancer.
Most, if not all of us, have had the heart-breaking moment when someone we love loses their battle with cancer.
This year, COVID-19 has had an impact.
The Canadian Cancer Society is anticipating an $80 million short-fall in fundraising. The bigger challenge though is more people are reaching out to us than ever before and we have responded - as we always do.
We are still helping people every single day. We are still determined so support people over the phone, online, through new and supportive webcasts, through travel and practical support.
Let me say it again, we are still doing this with a projected shortfall of $80 million.
COVID-19 hit our country just prior to our April campaign. It became a virtual one.
Relay For Life is one of our signature events and, in order to continue to do our part to end COVID-19 it has been moved to Relay For Life at Home - a virtual Relay and it's going to be amazing.
We all Relay for different reasons.
I relay for Chance - I think of you and your memory inspires me every time I work on a program for children diagnosed with cancer
I relay for Jim - my father-in-law whose memory is close at all times
I relay for Joan - my mother-in-law who I will always remember and miss
I relay for my Uncle Bill who passed just a month ago and my Uncle Glen who passed away many years ago
I relay for Peter, for Steve, and for Jen
I relay for my mom - who fought skin cancer and won
I relay for you so that you never hear the words you have cancer.
Please consider making a donation to support my Relay For Life goal.
Thank you to everyone who participated in Relay At Home - it was a huge success! If you were unable to take part in the live event or if you want to relive the Relay magic, you can still watch it on Facebook. Our website will be accepting online donations until August 13. Keep fundraising to support the thousands of Canadians facing cancer during this time. Thank you for your support of the Canadian Cancer Society.
