We have come together as a team to support the estimated 27,700 women and 260 men diagnosed with breast cancer every year in Canada. Last year, Nina was one of them.

Diagnosed with lymph node positive invasive ductal carcinoma at age 32, Nina underwent neo-adjuvant chemotherapy, multiple surgeries, radiation, and remains on multiple medications to give her the best chance of keeping cancer away. 

Breast cancer does not discriminate, affecting women of all ages. We are #NotTooYoung. 

We are participating and fundraising for this year’s Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure on Sunday, October 1, 2023 in honour of Nina, all young breast cancer survivors and those this disease has taken from us. 

“Raising awareness about breast cancer in young women is so important to me.

Our outcomes are usually worse, and our disease often more aggressive. We are more likely to be diagnosed at a later stage, with lymph node positive disease, as I was. This is largely due to the reality that we are not eligible for routine screening in most cases, and identify our own cancers. This has to change. 

Once in the lymphatic system cancer can return at a distant location. Distant metastasis is stage 4 breast cancer, and incurable. Being diagnosed later, increases the likelihood this may happen. 

As a young survivor, I care immensely about improving outcomes for those with metastatic breast cancer. I am hopeful for a future with a cure for all stages of breast cancer.” - Nina 

Our team’s goal is to raise as much money as possible so that we can direct our funds to research aimed at metastatic disease. 

Participants who raise $2,500 or more as an individual will have the option to choose where they want their fundraising dollars to go. Please help as many of our team members as possible to hit this goal!
