Ottawa-Gatineau: Boob-icorn - CIBC Run for the Cure

Ottawa-Gatineau

Boob-icorn

On April 1st, 2022, at age 30, I had my first mammogram. I was worried about cysts, so my doctor added a mammogram to our regular ultrasound. That day, we uncovered a 9cm tumor in my right breast. By the end of the year I had 3 biopsies, 5 rounds of chemo, 10 rounds of targeted therapy infusions, a blood transfusion, shingles, a single-mastectomy, and 15 rounds of radiation.

Fast forward to today, I am a boob-icorn! Me and my single boob are here participating in the Run for the Cure as a participant of hope, as I am a boob-icorn. I didn't do this alone, so of course my family and friends have been there every step of the way, just like they will be on October 1st as we Run for the Cure.

Treatment was grueling, identity altering, and forever scaring.

We need help to make treatment safer, to make screening earlier, and awareness for self-monitoring not a "should" but a life-saving must.
