According to the Canadian Cancer Society, it is estimated that 30,500 Canadian women and 290 Canadian men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024. 

In February, 2023, I became one of these women. There is no cancer in my family and I naively thought I didn't have anything to worry about . . . until I got the call following a routine mammogram.  I was in total shock and disbelief that I had cancer.  It was an aggressive type of breast cancer (triple negative breast cancer) but thankfully it was caught early and was treatable through surgery and chemotherapy.   

Many are not as fortunate as I was. My personal journey through cancer has helped me see how far things have progressed towards finding a cure for cancer. I've learned that although 30,500 women and 290 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year,  no two cancers are the same and the treatments have been personalized to provide the best possible outcome for the individual.  It's truly amazing how far cancer treatments have progressed, but we still have work to do and that's what this run is all about.

To show my support for all Canadians impacted by breast cancer, I am participating and fundraising for this year’s Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure on Sunday, October 6, 2024.
