My name is Connie Claeys. In July 2015, I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer at the age of 29 years old. 1 month earlier my twin sister Cortney had been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. We later found out we both carry the BRCA2 gene. We both had double mastectomies. Cortney needed chemo and radiation as she had lymphatic involvement. 5 years later, at the age of 34, Cortney was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer in November of 2020 after finding a lump on her neck. I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer in August, 2022 after having a blood test needed for a trial drug I was a candidate for to reduce risks of breast cancer coming back. I never had any symptoms. I will run for my sister and I in hope that enough funds can be raised for metastasis cancer to become a chronic disease, and not a terminal disease. There is hope.
