(Clarification: a different cancer killed my father -- but a step forward in one cancer can only assist the reduction of all cancers)

 

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer seven years ago, it was a good news/bad news moment. The bad news, obviously, was breast cancer. The good news was that breast cancer is so prevalent, the medical community had decades of real-world, empirical patient data upon which to craft a treatment program for me. But that's bad news, too. The oncologists knew just what to do because of how many people (men can get it, too!) have and have had the disease. That's a problem.

 

I am participating and fundraising for this year’s Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure so that hopefully one day soon it will become uncommon.
