In 2022, when I was newly pregnant with Mae, I found out that my mom was diagnosed with stage 2 (later, stage 3) breast cancer. Whew, typing that brings me back to feeling the unknown and fear I felt then.

And if you know my mom, you know she put everything she had into fighting it. She underwent a year of treatments targeted to her specific type of breast cancer, made possible by the latest updates in breast cancer research. She also sought out several support programs and services in Ottawa to connect with experts and women in various stages of their treatments.

I can’t tell you how immensely grateful I am that my mom is now here, living in Calgary, and is cancer-free. To be able to walk this 5k with my mom and Mae to support the Canadian Cancer Society is extra special.
