February 13, 2024 is a day I will never forget.  I got an email that my biopsy results were ready, so I logged into my MyAHS Connect and my heart dropped.  The results showed a large area of DCIS grade 3, which is an early stage of fast growing cancer.  I texted a friend who works with a radiologist to confirm my interpretation was right and she sadly confirmed it was - not exactly the reply I was hoping to get.  After all, I had no breast lumps and had simply went in for a routine mammogram.  I am so thankful that the cancer was caught early.  Fast forward a month and half, I underwent a bilateral surgery to remove the cancerous tissue at the hands of one of the best oncoloplastic breast surgeons around - Dr. Lesniak.  I was very fortunate to land such a skilled and compassionate surgeon!  I was told I would need radiation, which would take place about 6 weeks post op.  Fast forward to the end of July and my radiation has finally started.  I now have 5 treatments of the 20 daily radiation sessions completed and cannot wait to start a fresh cancer-free chapter this fall.
