Every day, an estimated 27,000 women and 260 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in Canada. By participating in this year’s Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure, my family (aka The Pink Breakfast Club) will be joining thousands of runners and walkers to raise money to fight breast cancer, and honour friends, family, and loved ones impacted by the disease.

I am participating to honour my youngest sister, Orlena, who is a 11-year cancer survivor and dedicated junior high teacher in Edmonton. She has battled health challenges since 2012 with tremendous courage. Orlena is my hero for teaching both online and in person during the COVID-19 pandemic, and she continues to make a difference to the lives of her students.
