Kelowna: Hope For The Breast - CIBC Run for the Cure

Hope For The Breast

Every day, 70 Canadians will hear the words “you have breast cancer.”

Our team started when three of us heard those words and then connected through our own diagnoses. Ranging in age from 33-43 we were all told we were 'too young' and not to worry about breast cancer. Turns out we weren't too young and we would all go through chemotherapy, surgery and radiation. Since then our team has grown. Friends, family, friends who have family members diagnosed with cancer have joined our cause.

This year, we are proud to partner with Bust’n Loose, Kelowna’s breast cancer survivor dragon boat team. Bust’n Loose aims to raise awareness about breast cancer, support research initiatives and survivors all while having fun! Founded in 1998, Bust’n Loose have been carrying out this mission ever since. The few of us that were in Kelowna were excited to find out about the team and even more excited to join up and start paddling with them in 2021. Being around other survivors and thrivers is an amazing opportunity and we are honoured to have them join us this year for the run.

Sadly, some of the people we met along the way are no longer with us as their cancer progressed. So we will keep fundraising and we will keep running. Running for a cure so the women and men diagnosed with stage four cancer can have a long future ahead of them and easier access to the medications and treatments they need.

Through the generosity of our supporters, in the last 3 years Hope for the Breast (formally Fake Eyelashes) has been able to raise over $20,000 for metastatic breast cancer research. By partnering with Bust’n Loose, we hope to meet (or exceed!) our goal of $7500 in 2024! Thank you so much for stopping by and your kind generosity. We invite you to join us at the Run for the Cure event in Kelowna or sign up in your home community on October 6, 2024!

Did you know that just $100 could fund two hours of life-saving research in a world class laboratory? Your contribution could lead to the next breakthrough!

Together, we can change the future of breast cancer.

Thanks in advance for your support!
