As many of you know, my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in November 2023. I had no idea at that time that my best friend, Cindy, had found a lump in her breast. She later told me she spared me the news as I was already dealing with the shock of my mom's diagnosis.

These past 8 months I have come to realize that the two women that I know are even stronger than I had ever even imagined--and I already knew they were tough cookies. They have both gone through not only the ordeal and shock of their diagnoses, they have put on such brave faces, not only for themselves, but for all those around them. I don't know how they do it.

All I do know, is that I want to be there to support them, and the future of cancer research AND screening in Canada. I now know first hand that cancer does NOT discriminate. It can and will most likely happen to someone you love, and I dream of a future where there is a cure for all cancers, and how one day we live with this disease as just a chronic, rather than a life-threatening illness.
