My mother, Karolyn Toews, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. We felt lucky that we had caught the aggressive cancer early, and thankful for the treatment options that were available to us. Unfortunately, her cancer returned in late 2019, and then again as metastasized brain cancer in 2021. My mom’s fight ended on September 7, 2021. I still think about her every single day. 

I am participating and fundraising for this year’s Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure to show my support for the thousands of Canadians diagnosed with breast cancer every year. It is my hope that my contribution will provide support to those navigating life altering diagnoses as my mom once did.
